Locating Device for Use with Power Tools

An electric cutting and marking tool for sheet material, comprising:

• a body comprising an outer surface having a circumference, and at least one multi-position switch;
• a sheet material cutting bit securely retained by the body;
• at least one sensor unit integrally formed with the body and extending outside the circumference of the outer surface of the body, with the at least one sensor unit containing at least one sensor, and with the at least one sensor unit comprising a flat outer surface, wherein the flat outer surface has a marking device extending therefrom;
• wherein the at least one sensor is operable to transmit and receive signals to detect characteristics of objects behind sheet material, wherein the characteristics comprise at least one from the group of object density, conductivity, depth, and object identification, and with the at least one sensor being controlled by the at least one multi-position switch;
• and
• wherein a first position of the multi-position switch is an “off” position, a second position is an “on” position for the sheet material cutting bit and a third position is an “on” position for the at least one sensor unit.
