A method for synthesizing a polymeric micellar nanoparticle, said method comprising
- functionalizing a block copolymer amphiphile to incorporate a catechol group in one block of said block copolymer amphiphile, thereby providing a functionalized block copolymer amphiphile;
- contacting said functionalized block copolymer amphiphile under conditions suitable to afford a catechol-containing block copolymer;
- and
- contacting said catechol-containing block copolymer with a metal salt, thereby providing said polymeric micellar nanoparticle.
