Abstract
Disclosed herein are compositions for use in an energy providing devices and methods of preparing such devices. Also included herein is energy providing devices that comprise a charged compound modified substrate or zwitterion-modified substrate or energy providing devices that comprise an electrolyte that comprises a perhalogenatedphenyl azide charged or zwitterionic compound.
Claims20
An energy providing device comprising a charged compound modified substrate or zwitterion-modified substrate.
A method of preparing a charged compound modified substrate or zwitterion modified substrate comprising:
- d) contacting a substrate with an alcohol for a time sufficient for the alcohol to saturate the substrate;
- e) incubating the saturated substrate with a solution comprising a charged or zwitterionic compound for at least 30 seconds;
- and
- f) exposing the substrate of step b) under a light source for at least 30 seconds, thereby generating the charged compound modified substrate or zwitterion modified substrate.
A charged or zwitterionic compound that has the structure of Formula IIa or Formula IIb:
- wherein
- A is selected from —C(═O)— and —(SO2)—;
- each of R1a and R1b is independently selected from hydrogen and halogen;
- each of R2a and R2b is halogen;
- R3 is selected from hydrogen and C1-C4 alkyl;
- R10a and R10b are independently selected from C1-C4 alkyl;
- and
- R10c is selected from C1-C4 alkyl, —(C1-C8alkylene)SO3−, —(C1-C8alkylene)SO3H, —(C1-C8alkylene)CO2−, and —(C1-C8alkylene)CO2H.
