Abstract
The present invention is method of reducing the longitudinal beam of a kayak in the area of a kayaker's paddle stroke by incorporating a cutaway section. The invention allows the paddle to be closer to the center of gravity of the kayak and thus produce more drive force and less wasted turning force. The paddler doesn't have to reach out so far to the side and therefore has a more comfortable and ergonomic stroke.
Claims6
A cutaway portion along both sides of a kayak that narrows the width of the kayak in the area where a kayaker's paddle passes by the sides of the kayak. Where:
- a. The kayak is of stitch-and-glue construction made from wood panels.
- b. The longitudinal beam of the kayak where the deck and hull are joined at a sharp angle.
- c. The disclosed cutaway is a plywood stitch-and-glue panel.
A cutaway portion along both sides of a kayak that narrows the width of the kayak in the area where a kayaker's paddle passes by the sides of the kayak. Where:
- a. The kayak including the disclosed cutaway is made of plastic.
- b. The longitudinal beam of the kayak is a sharp, rounded or curved angle in cross section.
A cutaway portion along both sides of a kayak that narrows the width of the kayak in the area where a kayaker's paddle passes by the sides of the kayak. Where:
- a. The kayak including the disclosed cutaway is made of fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar or other suitable material either signally or in combination.
- b. The longitudinal beam of the kayak is a sharp, rounded or curved angle in cross section.
A cutaway portion along both sides of a kayak that narrows the width of the kayak in the area where a kayaker's paddle passes by the sides of the kayak. Where:
- a. The kayak including the disclosed cutaway is a skin of any material (e.g. canvas, nylon or Dacron) over an internal frame and longitudinal structure made of made of any material (e.g. wood or aluminum tubing)
- b. The longitudinal beam of the kayak is a sharp, rounded or curved angle in cross section.
A cutaway portion along both sides of a kayak that narrows the width of the kayak in the area where a kayaker's paddle passes by the sides of the kayak. Where:
- a. The kayak is an inflatable kayak of any design, construction or material.
