Method for performing multiple authentications within service registration procedure

A method for performing multiple authentications within a service registration procedure, the method comprising:

• sending, by a User Equipment (UE), a REGISTER request message to an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) server;
• receiving, at said UE, an IMS authentication challenge from said IMS server, wherein said IMS authentication challenge comprises an IMS authentication parameter and a Mission Critical Push to Talk (MCPTT) authentication indication;
• verifying, at said UE, said IMS authentication challenge;
• and
• sending, by said UE, a REGISTER response message to said IMS server, wherein said REGISTER response message comprises an IMS authentication response to authenticate said UE at said IMS server.

A method for performing multiple authentications within a service registration procedure, the method comprising:

• receiving, at an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) server, a REGISTER request message from a User Equipment (UE);
• sending, by said IMS server, an IMS authentication challenge to said UE, wherein said IMS authentication challenge comprises an IMS authentication parameter and a Mission Critical Push to Talk (MCPTT) authentication challenge;
• and
• receiving, at said IMS server, a REGISTER response message from said UE, wherein said REGISTER response message comprises an IMS authentication response to authenticate said UE at said IMS server and a MCPTT authentication response to authenticate said UE at said MCPTT server.

The method of claim 6, wherein said method further comprises:

• verifying, at said IMS server, said UE based on said IMS authentication response;
• sending, by said IMS server, said MCPTT authentication response to said MCPTT server;
• receiving, by said IMS server, a MCPTT success message from said MCPTT server;
• registering, by said IMS server, said UE based on said MCPTT success message;
• and
• sending, by said IMS server, an IMS authentication success message to said UE.

A method for performing multiple authentications within a service registration procedure, the method comprising:

• receiving, at an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) server, a REGISTER request message from a User Equipment (UE);
• sending, by said IMS server, an IMS authentication challenge to said UE, wherein said IMS authentication challenge comprises an IMS authentication parameter;
• and
• receiving, at said IMS server, a REGISTER response message from said UE, wherein said REGISTER response message comprises an IMS authentication response to authenticate said UE at said IMS server.

A User Equipment (UE) for performing multiple authentications within a service registration procedure, the UE comprising:

• a storage unit;
• and
• a controller unit, coupled to said storage unit, configured to:
• send a REGISTER request message to an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) server;
• receive an IMS authentication challenge from said IMS server, wherein said IMS authentication challenge comprises an IMS authentication parameter and a Mission Critical Push to Talk (MCPTT) authentication challenge;
• verify said IMS authentication challenge and MCPTT authentication challenge;
• generate a REGISTER response message;
• and
• send said REGISTER response message to said IMS server, wherein said REGISTER response message comprises an IMS authentication response to authenticate said UE at said IMS server;
• and a MCPTT authentication response to authenticate said UE at said MCPTT server.

A User Equipment (UE) for performing multiple authentications within a service registration procedure, the UE comprising:

• a storage unit;
• and
• a controller unit, coupled to said storage unit, configured to:
• send a REGISTER request message to an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) server;
• receive an IMS authentication challenge from said IMS server, wherein said IMS authentication challenge comprises an IMS authentication parameter and a Mission Critical Push to Talk (MCPTT) authentication indication;
• verify said IMS authentication challenge;
• and
• send a REGISTER response message to said IMS server, wherein said REGISTER response message comprises an IMS authentication response to authenticate said UE at said IMS server.

An IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) server for performing multiple authentications within a service registration procedure, the IMS sever comprising:

• a storage unit;
• and
• a controller unit, coupled to said storage unit, configured to:
• receive a REGISTER request message from a User Equipment (UE);
• send an IMS authentication challenge to said UE, wherein said IMS authentication challenge comprises an IMS authentication parameter and a Mission Critical Push to Talk (MCPTT) authentication challenge;
• and
• receive a REGISTER response message from said UE, wherein said REGISTER response message comprises an IMS authentication response to authenticate said UE at said IMS server and a MCPTT authentication response to authenticate said UE at said MCPTT server.

An IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) server for performing multiple authentications within a service registration procedure, the IMS sever comprising:

• a storage unit;
• and
• a controller unit, coupled to said storage unit, configured to:
• receive a REGISTER request message from a User Equipment (UE);
• send an IMS authentication challenge to said UE, wherein said IMS authentication challenge comprises an IMS authentication parameter;
• and
• receive a REGISTER response message from said UE, wherein said REGISTER response message comprises an IMS authentication response to authenticate said UE at said IMS server.
