A method and device for making a payment transaction over a payment network are provided. The method employs a communication device associated with a consumer, and has a radio frequency (RF) communication module. The method includes receiving, by the communication device, a request for an input of payment account data in respect of the payment transaction, reading, by the communication device in response to the request, the payment account data from a payment card using the RF communication module, and transmitting the payment account data to the payment network for processing the payment transaction.
