System and Method for Configuration Management Database Governance

A system for configuration management database governance, the system comprising:

• a server device including a processor and a memory, the memory including instructions executable by the processor to:
• identify a first configuration item having an associated first configuration item type and a second configuration item having a second configuration item type;
• identify a first relationship between the first configuration item and the second configuration item, the first relationship having a first relationship type;
• identify a relationship rule, the relationship rule including a first rule configuration item type, a second rule configuration item type, and a rule relationship type associated with the first rule configuration item type and the second rule configuration item type;
• determine whether the relationship between the first configuration item and the second configuration item is consistent with the relationship rule by comparing (a) the first and second configuration item types and the first and second rule configuration item types and (b) the rule relationship type and the first relationship type;
• and
• allow the first configuration item and the second configuration item to be stored in the configuration management database responsive to a determination that the first relationship is consistent with the relationship rule.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

• identifying a first configuration item and a second configuration item;
• identifying a relationship between the first configuration item and the second configuration item;
• identifying a relationship rule governing the relationship between the first configuration item and the second configuration item;
• determining whether the relationship between the first configuration item and the second configuration ident is consistent with the relationship rule;
• and
• allowing, in response to a determination that the relationship between the first configuration item and the second configuration item is consistent with the relationship rule, the first configuration item and the second configuration item to be stored in a configuration management database.
