An expression cassette for producing cinnamaldehyde, the expression cassette comprising a pal (phenylalanine ammonia lyase) gene derived from Streptomyces maritimus, a 4 cl (4-coumarate:CoA ligase) gene derived from Streptomyces coelicolor, and a ccr (cinnamoyl Co-A reductase) gene derived from Arabidopsis thaliana.
