Abstract
A grease gun which uses a piston to mechanically push grease from a standard tube without the need for air pressure. A grease tube chamber is sized to hold a standard tube of grease, and may be closed at a first or front end by a cap with a dispensing nozzle. At a second end, a piston assembly includes a plunger rod with a piston that may be advanced towards the front end by a drive handle assembly. As the piston advances, it enters into the open rear end of a grease tube, pushing the grease forward where it is dispensed through the nozzle on the cap. When not in use, the plunger rod is urged rearwards by a spring, pulling the piston away from the grease to reduce potential leakage.
Claims20
A grease dispensing tool comprising:
- a tube chamber having a closed distal end and an open front end for receiving a tube of grease;
- a cap releasably attachable to the tube chamber over the open front end, the cap including a dispensing opening and a seal element for sealing against a tube of grease at an open front of the tube of grease;
- a dispensing nozzle attached to the dispensing opening;
- and
- a piston assembly comprising a piston sized to enter an open rear end of the grease tube while contacting sidewalls of the grease tube, a plunger rod connected to the piston and extending distally therefrom and a drive assembly for advancing or retracting the piston.
A grease dispensing tool comprising:
- a grease tube holder having distal end for sealing against a tube of grease at an open rear end of the tube of grease disposed therein and an open front end;
- a cap releasably attachable to the grease tube holder to close the open front end thereof, the cap including a dispensing opening and a seal element for sealing against a tube of grease at an open front of the tube of grease;
- a dispensing nozzle attached to the dispensing opening;
- a piston assembly comprising a piston sized to enter an open rear end of the grease tube while contacting sidewalls of the grease tube, a plunger rod connected to the piston and extending distally therefrom;
- and
- a drive assembly for advancing or retracting the piston comprising a trigger handle for actuating the assembly and at least one spring configured to advance the plunger rod when the trigger handle is actuated.
