Abstract
This disclosure provides Chlamydomonas violaxanthin de-epoxidase (CVDE) gene, polypeptides, and variants thereof as well as host cells that are genetically modified to express a CVDE polypeptide or variant. The disclosure additionally provides methods of producing such a genetically modified host cell and methods of using the cells , e.g., to increase zeaxanthin production.
Claims19
An expression vector comprising a polynucleotide that comprises a nucleic acid sequence encoding a polypeptide having at least 50% identity to amino acids 57-876 of SEQ ID NO:1.
A host cell comprising having at least 50% identity to amino acids 57-876 of SEQ ID NO:1, wherein the host cell is from a photosynthetic organism.
A method of increasing the kinetics of non-photochemical quenching or increasing zeaxanthin production in a photosynthetic organism, the method comprising genetically modifying the photosynthetic organism to overexpress a polypeptide having at least 50% identity to amino acids 57-876 of SEQ ID NO:1 in the plant;
- or a method of increasing zeaxanthin production.
