Abstract
Disclosed are various embodiments of lock devices, systems, and methods. A lock of the application can include an internal mechanism to permit backdriven operation and lost motion operation. In one form the lock can be made from an assembly of parts that have locating features that require one way installation/assembly. The lock can include an internal power source capable of driving electronics used to determine handedness of a door.
Claims17
An apparatus comprising:
- a door access device having a key lock structured to receive a key used to extend and retract a bolt for securing a door, the device also having a user grappling member for use with a hand of a person to grasp and manipulate the door access device, the grappling member configured to extend and retract the bolt;
- a motor structured to move the bolt to an extended or a retracted position;
- a drive member drivingly coupled with the bolt and actuatable between the extended or retracted positions using any of the motor, the user grappling member, and the key;
- and
- a lost motion assembly interposed between the drive member driving mechanisms and the drive member and having a first lost motion member moveable via the motor and in moveable communication with a second lost motion member moveable via the drive member, the first lost motion member having an engaging portion structured to contact the second lost motion member and cause movement of the drive member between a relatively extended position and a relatively retracted position, the first lost motion member also having a range of motion in which the engaging portion is not in contact with the second lost motion member such that in one mode of operation movement of the bolt results in substantially little corresponding movement of the first lost motion member.
2 more elements
An apparatus comprising:
- a powered door access device module structured to operate a bolt that can be extended and retracted to secure a door, the device module also having a receptacle for receiving an energy storage device useful to provide power to a motor to extend and retract the bolt and a user grappling member useful to permit a user to extend and retract the bolt when the device module is coupled with a door and bolt assembly;
- and
- a lost motion assembly disposed within the powered door access device module having a first lost motion member oriented to be driven directly via the motor and a second lost motion member oriented to extend and retract the bolt, the first lost motion member and the second lost motion member structured to contact each other to transmit power from the motor to the bolt such that the first lost motion member is capable of moving over an operating range to convey the second lost motion member between a bolt retracted position and a bolt extended position, the first lost motion member also having a deadband of contact with the second lost motion member that corresponds substantially to the operating range such that after the second lost motion member is conveyed between the bolt retracted position and the bolt extended position the first lost motion member can be reversed and return to a starting position substantially without disrupting an orientation of the second lost motion member.
An apparatus comprising:
- a powered bolt assembly structured to be coupled to a door and having a keyed entry side and a user exit side that includes a user grappling member, a motor disposed internal to the powered bolt assembly and coupled with a bolt via a gearing, and a drive member structured to receive an operating force from the user grappling member to extend or retract the bolt;
- and
- means for permitting movement of the drive member between a extended position and a retracted position without corresponding movement of the motor
