## Abstract

A system provides haptic functionality over a networked system. The system receives information from a first device registered at the networked system and determines a notification to be provided to a user based on the information. The system then selects a second device registered at the networked system and provides the notification to the user by producing a haptic effect on the second device.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to provide haptic functionality over a networked system, the processor:
receiving information from a first device registered at the networked system;
determining a notification to be provided to a user based on the information;
selecting a second device registered at the networked system, wherein the second device is selected based on a user interaction with the second device; and
providing the notification to the user by causing the second device to produce a haptic effect.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The computer readable medium of claim 1, wherein the second device includes a haptic actuator configured to produce the haptic effect.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The computer readable medium of claim 1, wherein the haptic effect is determined based at least in part on characteristics of the notification.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The computer readable medium of claim 3, wherein the characteristics of the notification include a context of the notification or a severity of the notification.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The computer readable medium of claim 1, wherein the haptic effect is determined based at least in part on characteristics of the second device.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The computer readable medium of claim 5, wherein the characteristics of the second device include a fidelity of the second device or a haptic capability of the second device.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The computer readable medium of claim 1, wherein the second device includes a sensor configured to detect the user interaction with the second device.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The computer readable medium of claim 1, wherein the information received from the first device indicates that the user is missing an item.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The computer readable medium of claim 8, wherein the networked system determines that the user is missing the item based on information received from a plurality of devices registered at the networked system.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The computer readable medium of claim 9, wherein the networked system determines that the user is missing the item by comparing the information received from the plurality of devices with a list of items that the user needs to have, wherein the list is based on a location of the user.

### Claim 11

A method of providing haptic functionality over a networked system, the method comprising:
receiving information from a first device registered at the networked system;
determining a notification to be provided to a user based on the information;
selecting a second device registered at the networked system, wherein the second device is selected based on a user interaction with the second device; and
providing the notification to the user by causing the second device to produce a haptic effect.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the second device includes a haptic actuator configured to produce the haptic effect.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the haptic effect is determined based at least in part on characteristics of the notification.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the characteristics of the notification include a context of the notification or a severity of the notification.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the haptic effect is determined based at least in part on characteristics of the second device.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The method of claim 15, wherein the characteristics of the second device include a fidelity of the second device or a haptic capability of the second device.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the second device includes a sensor configured to detect the user interaction with the second device.

### Claim 18 (depends on 11)

The method of claim 11, wherein the information received from the first device indicates that the user is missing an item.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The method of claim 18, wherein the networked system determines that the user is missing the item based on information received from a plurality of devices registered at the networked system.

### Claim 20

A system for providing haptic functionality over a networked system, comprising:
a processor; and
a memory coupled with the processor and storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
receive information from a first device registered at the networked system;
determine a notification to be provided to a user based on the information;
select a second device registered at the networked system, wherein the second device is selected based on a user interaction with the second device; and
provide the notification to the user by causing the second device to produce a haptic effect.
