## Abstract

Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media can identify a post to be published via a social networking system. A privacy schedule for modifying a privacy setting associated with the post can be determined. A trigger to modify the privacy setting associated with the post can be detected. The privacy setting can be modified based on the privacy schedule when the trigger is detected.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A computer-implemented method comprising:
determining, by a computing system, a privacy schedule for at least one content item, the privacy schedule specifying criteria for modifying at least one privacy setting for the content item;
determining, by the computing system, that criteria for modifying the at least one privacy setting for the content item is satisfied; and
applying, by the computing system, the modification to the privacy setting for the content item.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the criteria for modifying the at least one privacy setting for the content item includes at least one time-based trigger.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the criteria includes a first time-based trigger that specifies a first duration of time after which a first modification is applied to the privacy setting for the content item.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The computer-implemented method of claim 3, wherein the criteria includes a second time-based trigger that specifies a second duration of time after which a second modification is applied to the privacy setting for the content item.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the criteria for modifying the at least one privacy setting for the content item includes at least one event-based trigger.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The computer-implemented method of claim 5, wherein the event-based trigger corresponds to at least one of a relationship status update of a user that posted the content item, the user graduating from school, beginning or ending a school application period, beginning or ending a job application period, or a customized event created by the user.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein applying the modification to the privacy setting further comprises:
modifying, by the computing system, a user audience that is permitted to access the content item.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The computer-implemented method of claim 7, wherein a number of users included in the user audience is decreased after applying the modification to the privacy setting.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The computer-implemented method of claim 7, wherein a number of users included in the user audience is increased after applying the modification to the privacy setting.

### Claim 10 (depends on 7)

The computer-implemented method of claim 7, wherein, after applying the modification to the privacy setting, the user audience is limited to a user that posted the content item.

### Claim 11

A system comprising:
at least one processor; and
a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to perform:
determining a privacy schedule for at least one content item, the privacy schedule specifying criteria for modifying at least one privacy setting for the content item;
determining that criteria for modifying the at least one privacy setting for the content item is satisfied; and
applying the modification to the privacy setting for the content item.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The system of claim 11, wherein the criteria for modifying the at least one privacy setting for the content item includes at least one time-based trigger.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The system of claim 12, wherein the criteria includes a first time-based trigger that specifies a first duration of time after which a first modification is applied to the privacy setting for the content item.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein the criteria includes a second time-based trigger that specifies a second duration of time after which a second modification is applied to the privacy setting for the content item.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

The system of claim 11, wherein the criteria for modifying the at least one privacy setting for the content item includes at least one event-based trigger.

### Claim 16

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a computing system, cause the computing system to perform a method comprising:
determining a privacy schedule for at least one content item, the privacy schedule specifying criteria for modifying at least one privacy setting for the content item;
determining that criteria for modifying the at least one privacy setting for the content item is satisfied; and
applying the modification to the privacy setting for the content item.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the criteria for modifying the at least one privacy setting for the content item includes at least one time-based trigger.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the criteria includes a first time-based trigger that specifies a first duration of time after which a first modification is applied to the privacy setting for the content item.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 18, wherein the criteria includes a second time-based trigger that specifies a second duration of time after which a second modification is applied to the privacy setting for the content item.

### Claim 20 (depends on 16)

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the criteria for modifying the at least one privacy setting for the content item includes at least one event-based trigger.
