Abstract
A system for evaluating the quality of communication in a wireless network, comprising at least one management center and at least one mobile terminal, is disclosed. The management center can be responsible for managing a given server station and a set of server stations which are adjacent to that server station. The management center can be configured to obtain the loads of said adjacent server stations, and to calculate, on the basis of said loads, the signal-to-noise ratio which would be characteristic of a communication between that server station and a mobile terminal positioned at a given point of the geographic area served by this server station.
Claims13
A management center of a wireless network configured to manage a given server station and a set of server stations neighboring the given server station, the management center configured to:
- obtain the loads of the neighboring server stations;
- and
- on the basis of the loads, calculate a signal to noise ratio (SNR) that would characterize a communication between the given server station and a mobile communication terminal situated at a given point of the geographical area served by the server station.
A mobile communication terminal configured to take account of a signal to noise ratio (SNR) value characterizing a communication with a server station of a network to which the mobile terminal has access, the value being sent to the mobile terminal by a management center of the network, either directly or via the server station.
A service entity configured to:
- receive signal to noise ratio (SNR) information from a management center of a wireless network configured to manage a given server station and a set of server stations neighboring the given server station, the management center configured to obtain the loads of the neighboring server stations and calculate the SNR information on the basis of the loads, where the SNR information characterizes a communication between a given mobile terminal and the neighboring server stations;
- on the basis at least of the SNR information, select a network to which the terminal is to request attachment from among the networks to which the mobile terminal has access;
- and
- inform the mobile terminal of the selected network.
A control entity of a wireless network, the control entity configured to:
- receive signal to noise ratio (SNR) values from a management center of a wireless network configured to manage a given server station and a set of server stations neighboring the given server station, the management center configured to obtain the loads of the neighboring server stations and calculate the SNR values on the basis of the loads, where the SNR values would characterize a communication between a mobile communication terminal and a set of server stations if the mobile terminal were located at various locations of the network;
- and
- take account at least of the SNR values in order to estimate the state of the network in terms of quality of communication.
A manufacturer of over-the-top (OTT) tools, the manufacturer being configured to:
- receive signal to noise ratio (SNR) values from a management center of a wireless network configured to manage a given server station and a set of server stations neighboring the given server station, the management center configured to obtain the loads of the neighboring server stations and calculate the SNR values on the basis of the loads, where the SNR values would characterize a communication between a mobile communication terminal and a set of server stations if the mobile terminal were located at various locations of the network;
- and
- take account at least of the SNR values in order to construct a map of the coverage of the network.
A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method of controlling a management center of a wireless network configured to manage a given server station and a set of server stations neighboring the given server station, the method comprising:
- obtaining the loads of the neighboring server stations;
- and
- on the basis of the loads, calculating a signal to noise ratio (SNR) that would characterize a communication between the given server station and a mobile communication terminal situated at a given point of the geographical area served by the server station.
A computer having stored thereon instructions, which, when executed by the computer, cause the computer to perform a method of controlling the operation of a management center of a wireless network configured to manage a given server station and a set of server stations neighboring the given server station, the method comprising:
- obtaining the loads of the neighboring server stations;
- and
- on the basis of the loads, calculating a signal to noise ratio (SNR) that would characterize a communication between the given server station and a mobile communication terminal situated at a given point of the geographical area served by the server station.
