Abstract
Systems and methods for future-proofed control signaling are disclosed herein. A waveform enabling broadcast transmission of physical layer frames having variable parameters can be extended to allow for future additions to the control signaling structure without breaking compatibility with existing receivers. In some embodiments, new signaling parameters can be added in an existing portion of a preamble and the length of the modified parameter set can be indicated to legacy receivers. In some embodiments new signaling parameters can be added at the end of the existing preamble and viewed as reserved bits by legacy receivers.

A method, comprising:
- generating a physical layer pipe based at least in part on a corresponding parameter set;
- generating a preamble comprising a parameter portion and a cyclic redundancy check, the parameter portion comprising the parameter set;
- generating a data frame comprising the preamble and the physical layer pipe;
- and
- wirelessly broadcasting the data frame;
- wherein the parameter set corresponding to the physical layer pipe comprises a first portion and a second portion,
- wherein the first portion and the second portion are not adjacent within the preamble.
An apparatus, comprising:
- a processor configured to:
- generate a physical layer pipe based at least in part on a corresponding parameter set;
- generate a preamble comprising a parameter portion and a cyclic redundancy check, the parameter portion comprising the parameter set;
- generate a data frame comprising the preamble and the physical layer pipe;
- wherein the parameter set comprises a first portion and a second portion,
- wherein the first portion and the second portion are not adjacent within the preamble;
- and
- a transmitter configured to wirelessly broadcast the data frame.
A method, comprising:
- receiving a data frame comprising a preamble and a physical layer pipe;
- parsing the preamble to extract a parameter set corresponding to the physical layer pipe;
- and
- decoding the physical layer pipe based at least in part on the extracted parameter set;
- wherein parsing the preamble comprises:
- extracting a first portion of the parameter set;
- and
- extracting a second portion of the parameter set after extracting the first portion of each parameter set;
- wherein the first portion of the parameter set and the second portion of the parameter set are not adjacent within the preamble.
