Image forming apparatus having firmware update function, method of controlling the same, program for executing the method, and storage medium

An image forming apparatus comprising:

• a storage memory configured to store a firmware program that controls at least an image forming process and an update program that controls update of the firmware program;
• a hardware processor configured to execute operations including:
• verifying whether the update program is tampered;
• updating the firmware program in accordance with that the hardware processor executes the verified update program in a case where it is verified that the update program is not tampered;
• verifying whether the firmware program is tampered;
• and
• updating the update program in accordance with that the hardware processor executes the verified firmware program in a case where it is verified that the firmware program is not tampered.

A method of controlling an image forming apparatus that includes a hardware processor configured to execute operations, a storage memory configured to store a firmware program that controls at least an image forming process, and an update program that controls update of the firmware program, the method comprising:

• verifying whether the update program is tampered;
• updating the firmware program in accordance with that the hardware processor executes the verified update program in a case where it is verified that the update program is not tampered;
• verifying whether the firmware program is tampered;
• and
• updating the update program in accordance with that the hardware processor executes the verified firmware program in a case where it is verified that the firmware program is not tampered.
