Abstract
A Voice-over-IP (VOIP) system includes a plurality of multi control units (MCUs), in which a first MCU hosts a VOIP session. A method for recommending an MCU to host the VOIP session includes receiving MCU status associated with performance of each of the first MCU and a second MCU included in the VOIP system. The method further includes determining, based on the first and the second MCU status, that hosting the VOIP session on the second MCU can improve a VOIP system metric. According to the method, a recommendation is communicated to transfer hosting the VOIP session to the second MCU.
Claims20
A method for recommending a multi control unit (MCU) to host a Voice-over-IP (VOIP) session, the method comprising:
- receiving, by a processor, first MCU status from a first MCU, the first MCU included in a plurality of MCUs included in a VOIP system, the first MCU hosting the VOIP session, the first MCU status associated with performance of the first MCU;
- receiving, by the processor, second MCU status from a second MCU, the second MCU included in the plurality of MCUs, the second MCU status associated with performance of the second MCU;
- determining, by the processor, based at least in part on the first MCU status and the second MCU status, that the second MCU hosting the VOIP session can improve a VOIP system metric;
- and
- communicating, by the processor, based at least in part on the determining that the second MCU hosting the VOIP session can improve the VOIP system metric, a recommendation to transfer the VOIP session from the first MCU to the second MCU.
A computer program product for recommending a multi control unit (MCU) to host a VOIP session, the computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a processor to perform a method comprising:
- receiving, by the processor, first MCU status from a first MCU, the first MCU included in a plurality of MCUs included in a VOIP system, the first MCU hosting the VOIP session, the first MCU status associated with performance of the first MCU;
- receiving, by the processor, second MCU status from a second MCU, the second MCU included in the plurality of MCUs, the second MCU status associated with performance of the second MCU;
- determining, by the processor, based at least in part on the first MCU status and the second MCU status, that the second MCU hosting the VOIP session can improve a VOIP system metric;
- and
- communicating, by the processor based at least in part on the determining that the second MCU hosting the VOIP session can improve the VOIP metric, a recommendation to transfer the VOIP session from the first MCU to the second MCU.
A system for recommending a multi control unit (MCU) to host a VOIP session, the system comprising:
- a plurality of MCUs included in a VOIP system;
- a plurality of conference devices, each of the conference devices communicatively coupled to a first MCU and to a second MCU, the first MCU and the second MCU included in the plurality of MCUs, the first MCU hosting the VOIP session;
- an adaptive MCU load balancer (AMLB) comprising a processor;
- and wherein the processor is configured to:
- receive first MCU status from the first MCU, the first MCU status associated with performance of the first MCU, the first MCU status;
- receive second MCU status from the second MCU, the second MCU status associated with performance of the second MCU;
- determine, based at least in part on the first MCU status and the second MCU status, that the second MCU hosting the VOIP session can improve a VOIP system metric;
- and
- output, based at least in part on the determining that the second MCU hosting the VOIP session can improve the VOIP system metric, a recommendation to transfer the VOIP session from the first MCU to the second MCU.
