Abstract
Methods, non-transitory computer readable media, computing devices and systems for persistent indexing and space management for flat directory include creating, using at least one of said at least one processors, an index file to store mapping information, computing, using at least one of said at least one processor, a hash based on a lookup filename, searching, using at least one of said at least one processor, the index file to find all matching directory cookies based on the computed hash, selecting, using at least one of said at least one processor, the directory entity associated with the lookup filename from among the matched directory cookies, and returning, using at least one of said at least one processor, the determined directory entity.
Claims22
1) A method for persistent indexing and space management of a flat directory in a data storage system including at least one processor, the method comprising:
- creating, using at least one of said at least one processors, an index file to store mapping information;
- computing, using at least one of said at least one processor, a hash based on a lookup filename;
- searching, using at least one of said at least one processor, the index file to find all matching directory cookies based on the computed hash;
- selecting, using at least one of said at least one processor, the directory entity associated with the lookup filename from among the matched directory cookies;
- and
- returning, using at least one of said at least one processor, the determined directory entity.
5) A computing device, comprising:
- a memory comprising machine executable code for performing a method of persistent indexing and space management of a flat directory implemented on the at least one hard disk drive;
- at least one processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute the machine executable code to cause the processor to:
- create an index file to store mapping information including hash of a filename and a location cookie;
- compute a hash based on a lookup filename;
- search the index file to find all matching directory cookies based on the computed hash;
- select the directory entity associated with the lookup filename from among the matched directory cookies;
- and
- return the determined directory entity.
9) A method for free space management of a flat directory in a data storage system including at least one processor, the method comprising:
- maintaining, using at least one of said at least one processor, at least one list of free spaces in the flat directory;
- computing, using at least one of said at least one processors, required free space for a filename for which free space is being looked up;
- selecting, using at least one of said at least one processor, a free list, from among the at least one list, based on the computed required free space;
- storing, using the at least one of said at least one processor, data in a first free slot in the selected free list;
- and
- updating, using at least one of said at least one processor, the at least one list of free spaces in the flat directory.
16) A computing device, comprising:
- a memory comprising machine executable code for performing a method of persistent indexing and free space management of a flat directory implemented on the at least one hard disk drive;
- at least one processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute the machine executable code to cause the processor to:
- maintain at least one list of free spaces in the flat directory;
- compute required free space for a filename for which free space is being looked up;
- select a free list, from among the at least one list, based on the computed required free space;
- storing data in a first free slot in the selected free list;
- and
- update the at least one list of free spaces in the flat directory.
