Evaluation of Risk of Data Loss and Backup Procedures

An method for improving the data backup procedures utilized by an IHS (Information Handling System), the method comprising:

• generating first risk data describing one or more physical movements of the IHS, wherein the physical movement information is generated by a sensor component of the IHS;
• generating second risk data describing one or more operations on a file stored by the IHS;
• generating third risk data identifying a current data backup procedure implemented by the IHS;
• transmitting the first risk data, the second risk data and the third risk data to a remote risk assessment service, wherein the remote risk assessment service evaluates the current backup procedure based on the first risk data and the second risk data;
• and
• receiving, from the remote risk assessment service, a backup procedure recommendation, wherein the recommended backup procedure reduces the risk of loss of data stored by the IHS.

An IHS (Information Handling System), comprising:

• a host processor;
• a movement sensor configured to provide movement information describing physical movement of the IHS;
• and
• a computer-readable medium coupled to the host processor, the computer-readable medium having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by the host processor, cause the IHS to:
• retrieve movement information from the movement sensor;
• generate first risk data describing one or more physical movements of the IHS;
• generate second risk data describing one or more operations on a file stored by the IHS;
• generate third risk data identifying a current data backup procedure implemented by the IHS;
• transmit the first risk data, the second risk data and the third risk data to a remote risk assessment service, wherein the remote risk assessment service evaluates the current backup procedure based on the first risk data and the second risk data;
• and
• receive, from the remote risk assessment service, a backup procedure recommendation, wherein the recommended backup procedure reduces the risk of loss of data stored by the IHS.
