Abstract
The present invention relates to extracted plant lipid, comprising fatty acids in an esterified form.
Claims21
1-113. (canceled)
A process for producing extracted lipid, comprising a step of extracting lipid from a seed which is an Arabidopsis thaliana seed or a canola seed of the species Brassica napus, the seed comprising exogenous polynucleotides encoding
- i) a fungal Δ12 desaturase,
- ii) a fungal ω3 desaturase whose amino acid sequence is set forth as SEQ ID NO:12, SEQ ID NO:70 or SEQ ID NO:72,
- iii) a microalgal Δ6 desaturase which is a Micromonas pusilla Δ6 desaturase or an Ostreococcus tauri Δ6 desaturase,
- iv) a Δ6 elongase,
- v) a Δ5 desaturase,
- vi) a Δ5 elongase, and
- vii) a Δ4 desaturase which is a Pavlova salina Δ4 desaturase or a Pavlova lutheri Δ4 desaturase,
- wherein each exogenous polynucleotide is operably linked to a promoter that directs expression of said polynucleotide in a seed cell, wherein the exogenous polynucleotides are covalently linked in a T-DNA molecule which is integrated into the seed's genome, and wherein the seed comprises a total fatty acid content comprising
- a) a total monounsaturated fatty acid content which comprises oleic acid,
- b) a total saturated fatty acid content which comprises palmitic acid and, if present, myristic acid (C14:0),
- c) a total ω6 fatty acid content which comprises linoleic acid (LA) and γ-linolenic acid (GLA),
- d) a total ω3 fatty acid content which comprises α-linolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), stearidonic acid (SDA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) and eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA),
- thereby producing the extracted lipid.
