Abstract
An intra-cardiac mapping system is based on locating the ports through which blood flows in or out the heart chambers. For many procedures, such as ablation to cure atrial fibrillation, locating the pulmonary veins and the mitral valve accurately allows to perform a Maze procedure. The location of the ports and valves is based on using the convective cooling effect of the blood flow. The mapping can be performed by a catheter-deployed expandable net or a scanning catheter. The same net or catheter can also perform the ablation procedure.
Claims26
(canceled)
A method comprising:
- providing a structure and a plurality of elements arranged on the structure;
- activating at least a group of elements in the plurality of elements to generate heat, each element in the group of elements activated to generate heat sufficient to cause an increase in temperature above blood temperature but insufficient to cause tissue ablation;
- displaying a representation of a first spatial distribution of at least the group of elements;
- and
- displaying, for each particular element in the group of elements, respective information related to the heat generated by the activation of the particular element.
A medical system comprising:
- a display console;
- and
- a control computer connected to the display console and a plurality of elements arranged on a structure, the control computer configured to:
- cause activation of each element in at least a group of elements in the plurality of elements to generate heat sufficient to cause an increase in temperature above blood temperature but insufficient to cause tissue ablation;
- cause the display console to display a representation of a first spatial distribution of at least the group of elements;
- and
- cause the display console to display, for each particular element in the group of elements, respective information related to the heat generated by the activation of the particular element.
