Networked digital imaging customization

An imaging method, comprising the steps of:

• selecting an image and a substrate upon which the image is to be formed;
• transmitting by a geographically remote computing device the image selection to a central computing device and the geographically remote computing device communicating to the central computing device a specification of a substrate upon which the image is to be formed to the central computing device;
• the central computing device selecting a geographically remote inkjet printer from a plurality of geographically remote printers that are geographically separated from each other;
• the central computing device communicating a graphic image file for the image selection to a fulfillment computing device that is associated with the geographically remote inkjet printer and the central computing device selecting and communicating a printing specification for the substrate to the fulfillment computing device that is associated with the geographically remote inkjet printer, wherein selection of the printing specification of the substrate by the central computing device is based upon a material from which the substrate is formed;
• the central computing device selecting an ink specification from a plurality of ink specifications and communicating the specification of the ink selected to the fulfillment computing device, wherein an ink according to the specification of the ink is liquid when printed by the inkjet printer;
• the central computing device communicating a color management profile to the fulfillment computing device, wherein the color management profile is selected by the central computer as a function of the graphic image file, the printing specification of the ink and the specification of the substrate;
• and
• the fulfillment computing device causing the geographically remote inkjet printer to print the image selection using the ink selected and according to the graphic image file and color management profile supplied by the central computing device;
• and causing an image according to the image selection to be formed on the substrate that is selected according to the specification of the substrate.
