Abstract
A process performed on a server includes configuring the server to enable script for a Web service to be defined dynamically, where the Web service includes an application program interface (API) for enabling access by, and interaction with, a computer program executing on a device other than the server. The process also includes compiling the script to produce machine-executable code for the Web service, receiving a call from the computer program to the Web service, executing the machine-executable code in response to the call to produce an output, and sending the output to the device.
Claims24
A computing system on a computer network, comprising:
- memory storing instructions that are executable;
- and
- one or more processing devices to execute the instructions to perform operations comprising:
- receiving scripts for Web services from clients of the computing system, each Web service comprising a custom Web service for a user at a respective client;
- receiving, from one of the clients, a call to a Web service of the Web services;
- and
- executing the Web service in response to the call, the Web service being restricted in operation based on permissions given to a user logged-in to the one of the clients, the Web service being configured to access application programming interfaces of the computing system relating to at least some assets based on the permissions, and the Web service being configured to provide information to the one of the clients about the at least some assets, where the at least some assets are behind security on the computer network.
Non-transitory machine-readable storage storing instructions that are executable on one or more processing devices of a computing system to perform operations comprising:
- receiving scripts for Web services from clients of the computing system, each Web service comprising a custom Web service for a user at a respective client;
- receiving, from one of the clients, a call to a Web service of the Web services;
- and
- executing the Web service in response to the call, the Web service being restricted in operation based on permissions given to a user logged-in to the one of the clients, the Web service being configured to access application programming interfaces of the computing system relating to at least some assets based on the permissions, and the Web service being configured to provide information to the one of the clients about the at least some assets, where the at least some assets are behind security on the computer network.
A method performed on one or more servers, comprising:
- receiving, from a device, a script for a first Web service as an argument in a call to a second Web service running on the one or more servers;
- generating code for the script by running the second Web service;
- storing the code on the one or more servers;
- querying, through an application program interface (API) of the one or more servers, a monitoring agent for data associated with an asset, the data representing operation and/or status of the asset;
- receiving, from a computer program, a request identifying the monitoring agent and the first Web service;
- based on the request, executing the code on the one or more servers to process the data obtained from the monitoring agent to generate an output that is derived from the operation and/or status of the asset;
- and
- sending the output over a computer network to the computer program.
Non-transitory machine-readable storage storing instructions that are executable on one or more servers to perform operations comprising:
- receiving, from a device, a script for a first Web service as an argument in a call to a second Web service running on the one or more servers;
- generating code for the script by running the second Web service;
- storing the code on the one or more servers;
- querying, through an application program interface (API) of the one or more servers, a monitoring agent for data associated with an asset, the data representing operation and/or status of the asset;
- receiving, from a computer program, a request identifying the monitoring agent and the first Web service;
- based on the request, executing the code on the one or more servers to process the data obtained from the monitoring agent to generate an output that is derived from the operation and/or status of the asset;
- and
- sending the output over a computer network to the computer program.
