Method for estimating channel status in wireless communication system, and apparatus therefor

A method for reporting a channel state by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• transmitting a sounding reference signal (SRS) to a base station (BS);
• receiving a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) from at least a part of antenna elements in a two-dimensional (2D) antenna array of the BS;
• and
• transmitting, to the BS, a channel quality indicator (CQI) calculated from the CSI-RS,
• wherein a downlink channel matrix for the entire 2D antenna array including remaining antenna elements not used for the CSI-RS transmission is obtained by adjusting an uplink channel matrix estimated from the SRS transmission through a prescribed correction factor calculated based on the CQI.

A base station (BS) in a wireless communication system, the BS comprising:

• a transmitter configured to transmit a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) through at least a part of antenna elements in a two-dimensional (2D) antenna array of the BS;
• a receiver configured to receive a channel quality indicator (CQI) calculated from the transmitted CSI-RS;
• and
• a processor configured to obtain an uplink channel matrix using a sounding reference signal (SRS) from a user equipment (UE) and obtain, through a prescribed correction factor obtained from the CQI and the uplink channel matrix, a downlink channel matrix for the entire 2D antenna array including remaining antenna elements not used for the CSI-RS transmission.
