Management of System Current Constraints with Current Limits for Individual Engines

A power controller, comprising circuitry to:

• determine a new dynamic capacitance for the execution engine based upon increased current demand received from an execution engine;
• calculate a new power consumption for the execution engine based upon the new dynamic capacitance;
• utilize the new power consumption to evaluate a new aggregate demand for power of a plurality of engines including the execution engine;
• and
• evaluate power provisioning of the processor based upon the new power consumption for the execution engine.

A method, comprising, within a processor:

• determining an increased current for an execution engine;
• and
• determining a new dynamic capacitance for the execution engine based upon the increased current;
• calculating a new power consumption for the execution engine based upon the new dynamic capacitance;
• utilizing the new power consumption to evaluate a new aggregate demand for power of a plurality of engines including the execution engine;
• and
• evaluating power provisioning of the processor based upon the new power consumption for the execution engine.
