Abstract
A detection device, including: one or a plurality of magnetic coupling elements configured to have one or a plurality of coils; and a detection unit that measures or calculates an effective resistance values of the magnetic coupling elements or an effective resistance value of a circuit including at least the magnetic coupling elements and determines a presence or absence of a foreign substance based on a change in the effective resistance value.

A power receiving device comprising:
- a resonance circuit that includes a power receiving coil electrically coupled to a resonance capacitor;
- a memory configured to store a predetermined reference Q value;
- and
- a control circuit configured to control a charge operation with respect to a battery and to control a load modulation circuit to communicate with a power transmitting device;
- wherein the predetermined reference Q value is determined in advance based on where the power receiving device is disposed relative to the power transmitting device.

A power transmitting system comprising;
- a power receiving device including
- a resonance circuit including a power receiving coil electrically connected to a resonance capacitor,
- a memory configured to store a previously determined reference Q value, and
- a control circuit configured to control a charge operation with respect to a battery and to control a load modulation circuit to communicate with a power transmitting device, and
- the power transmitting device including a foreign substance detection circuit configured to measure a Q value of a power transmitting coil and to compare the measured Q value with the previously determined reference Q value,
- wherein the previously determined reference Q value is based on the relative positions of the power receiving device and the power transmitting device.
