Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of a mono (meth)acrylate ester in a golf ball layer. The mono (meth)acrylate ester may be added to one or more portions of a golf ball including a core, intermediate, or cover layer. For example, in one embodiment, the mono (meth)acrylate ester may be blended with a polybutadiene rubber material. In another embodiment, the mono (meth)acrylate ester of the present invention may be blended with an ionomer. In some embodiments, the mono (meth)acrylate ester may be blended with a formulation including both a polybutadiene rubber component and an ionomer.
Claims16
A golf ball comprising a cover, a core, and an intermediate layer disposed between the cover and the core, wherein the core comprises:
- a blend of a polybutadiene rubber and at least one acrylate or methacrylate ester, wherein the acrylate ester has general formula (I) and the methacrylate ester has general formula (II):
- where R is a straight, branched, or cyclic, saturated, unsaturated, or polyunsaturated, carbon chain having from 1 to 26 carbon atoms, and wherein the acrylate or methacrylate ester is present in the blend in an amount of about 1 phr to about 70 phr.

A golf ball comprising a cover, a core, and an intermediate layer disposed between the cover and the core, wherein the core comprises:
- a blend of a polybutadiene rubber, at least one acrylate ester, and at least one methacrylate ester, wherein the acrylate ester has general formula (I) and the methacrylate ester has general formula (II):
- where R is a straight, branched, or cyclic, saturated, unsaturated, or polyunsaturated, carbon chain having from 1 to 26 carbon atoms, and wherein the acrylate and methacrylate esters are present in the blend in an amount of about 10 phr to about 50 phr.
A golf ball comprising a cover and a core, wherein the core comprises:
- a blend of a polybutadiene rubber and at least one acrylate or methacrylate ester, wherein the acrylate ester has general formula (I) and the methacrylate ester has general formula (II):
- where R is a straight, branched, or cyclic, saturated, unsaturated, or polyunsaturated, carbon chain having from 1 to 26 carbon atoms, and wherein the acrylate and methacrylate esters are present in the blend in an amount of about 10 phr to about 50 phr.
