Abstract
A method includes receiving, from a user via an electronic user interface, an indication of a golf course to be played, providing a listing of challenges to the user, receiving score data from the user in a sequential, hole-by-hole manner, and populating an electronic scorecard with score data from a selected one of the listing of challenges together with the received score data in a sequential, hole-by-hole manner. The listing of challenges include at least one of a previously recorded round of golf played at the golf course, and a simulated opponent.
Claims19
A method comprising:
- receiving, from a user via an electronic user interface, an indication of a golf course to be played;
- providing a listing of challenges to the user, the listing of challenges comprising at least one of:
- a previously recorded round of golf played at the golf course;
- and
- a simulated opponent;
- receiving score data from the user in a sequential, hole-by-hole manner;
- and
- populating an electronic scorecard with score data from a selected one of the listing of challenges together with the received score data in a sequential, hole-by-hole manner.
A method comprising:
- maintaining user play data within a database, the user play data including a plurality of records, each record containing score data, an identification of a user, an indication of a course from which the score data was generated, and an ability metric;
- determining an average score or handicap for each of a plurality of users according to the score data stored within the database;
- computing a statistical distribution for the ability metric, wherein the statistical distribution is derived from a subset of records where the identified user has an average score or handicap within a predetermined tolerance of a target average score or target handicap;
- receiving an electronic scorecard from a local user, wherein the local user has an average score or personal handicap from a plurality of rounds that is equal to the target average score or target handicap;
- computing an ability metric for the local user from the electronic scorecard;
- generating and displaying an image that represents the ability metric for the local user within the computed statistical distribution.
A method of compiling golf play data comprising:
- receiving a location via a GPS receiver associated with a user;
- receiving an indication from a user that a golf shot is about to occur;
- logging the location from the GPS when the indication is received;
- determining a hole on a golf course selected from a plurality of holes on the golf course that most closely corresponds to the logged location;
- incrementing a stroke on an electronic scorecard corresponding to the determined hole.
