Abstract
The present technology is directed generally to devices, systems, and methods for capturing and cutting fibrous and trabeculated structures (such as synechiae) in vessel lumens. In one embodiment, the present technology includes an intraluminal tissue modifying system configured to capture the fibrous structures, put the fibrous structures in tension, and controllably cut through the fibrous structures without applying appreciable additional force to the vessel wall. The system may include an expandable capture device and a cutting device.
Claims21
An intraluminal tissue modifying system comprising:
- a capture device comprising an elongated shaft having a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a slot along at least a portion of its length, wherein the distal portion of the elongated shaft includes a capture member, and wherein the capture device is transformable between a low-profile state and a deployed state, and further wherein, when the capture device is in the deployed state, the capture member extends outwardly away from a longitudinal axis of the elongated shaft and at least a portion of the capture member forms a hook shape configured to engage fibrous tissue;
- and
- a cutting device having a blade configured to cut through the fibrous tissue, wherein the cutting device is transformable between a low-profile state and a deployed state, and further wherein, when the cutting device is in the deployed state, the blade extends outwardly away from a longitudinal axis of the elongated shaft and through the slot in the capture device.
An intraluminal tissue modifying system comprising:
- an elongated shaft having a proximal portion and a distal portion configured to be positioned within a blood vessel lumen at a treatment site;
- a tissue modifying region at the distal portion of the elongated shaft, the tissue modifying region including:
- a capture arm transformable between a low-profile state and a deployed state, and wherein, when the capture arm is in the deployed state, the capture arm extends outwardly away from a longitudinal axis of the elongated shaft and at least a portion of the capture arm forms a curved shape configured to engage fibrous tissue;
- and
- a cutting element positioned along at least a portion of the length of the capture arm, wherein the cutting element has a cutting edge configured to cut through the fibrous tissue, and wherein, when the capture arm is in the deployed state, the cutting element is positioned at an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the elongated shaft.
A device for modifying intraluminal tissue, the device comprising:
- an outer shaft having a proximal portion and a distal portion, the outer shaft defining a lumen extending between the proximal portion and the distal portion, wherein the outer shaft includes a plurality of slots extending along a length of the distal portion, and wherein the portions of the outer shaft between the slots define capture members;
- and
- an inner shaft disposed within the lumen, wherein a distal end region of the inner shaft is fixed to a distal end region of the outer shaft such that proximal movement of the inner shaft with respect to the outer shaft pulls the distal portions of the capture members proximally and forces the capture members to bend outwardly away from the longitudinal axis of the outer shaft.
