Abstract
A sheath for providing a dynamic air shield relative to a distal portion of a laparoscope disposed within the sheath includes a sheath elongate body having an inner surface and an outer surface, a plurality of lumens, and a distal portion configured to deflect air from the lumens across the surface of a laparoscope. The sheath can include a registration and alignment feature configured to align the sheath with a laparoscope. Further, the sheath can be configured to work with robotic laparoscope systems.
Claims19
A system for clearing a lens of a robotic scope, comprising:
- a sheath elongate body having an inner surface and an outer surface and a plurality of lumens extending between the inner surface and the outer surface, the inner surface having an interior dimension selected to receive the robotic scope;
- an attachment mechanism configured to connect the sheath to the robotic scope;
- a gas connection port configured to provide gas to a first lumen of the plurality of lumens;
- a fluid connection portion configured to provide fluid to a second lumen of the plurality of lumens;
- a deflector assembly attached to a distal end of the sheath configured to deflect gas and fluid from the plurality of lumens over a lens of the scope;
- and
- an activation element remotely located relative to the sheath and configured to provide gas or fluid to the plurality of lumens when activated such that the gas or fluid flows over the lens.
A system for clearing a lens of a robotic scope, comprising:
- a sheath elongate body having an inner surface and an outer surface and a plurality of lumens extending between the inner surface and the outer surface, the inner surface having an interior dimension selected to receive the robotic scope;
- an attachment mechanism configured to connect the sheath to the robotic scope;
- a gas connection port configured to provide gas to a first lumen of the plurality of lumens;
- a fluid connection portion configured to provide fluid to a second lumen of the plurality of lumens;
- a deflector assembly attached to a distal end of the sheath configured to deflect gas or fluid from the plurality of lumens over a lens of the scope;
- and
- a controller, the controller configured to automatically provide gas or fluid through the one or more lumens based upon a trigger.
