Abstract
Example ambulation aid apparatus and associated methods of manufacture are disclosed and described herein. An example single-point supportive ambulation aid is formed as an integral part. The integral part of the example ambulation aid is formed to integrate: a body portion formed to support a user; a graspable area integrated with the body portion and providing an area to be gripped by a user; and a foot portion integrated with the body portion and providing a single point of contact with a walking surface to facilitate user movement and support in conjunction with the body portion and graspable area through the integral part.
Claims18
A method of forming a single-point supportive ambulation aid as an integral part, the method comprising:
- providing a supply of moldable foam material;
- and
- forming, from the supply of moldable foam material, the ambulation aid as an integral part, the integral part including a single body portion formed from the moldable foam material to support a user, wherein the single body portion is formed to attach to:
- a) a graspable area including a sliding geometry integrated proximate to a first end with a side of the body portion and protruding from the body portion and providing an area to be gripped by a user outside the body portion, the graspable area protruding from a receptacle formed in the body portion and having a position adjustable within the receptacle via the sliding geometry, the receptacle located in an upper area of the body portion and including a track to facilitate movement of the graspable area within the receptacle via the sliding geometry;
- and b) a foot portion integrated with the body portion and providing a single point of contact with a walking surface to facilitate user movement and support in conjunction with the body portion and graspable area through the integral part, the foot portion located in a bottom area of the body portion, wherein the foot portion contacts the walking surface in a direction of force substantially perpendicular to the walking surface and wherein the graspable area protrudes from the body portion substantially perpendicular to the foot portion.
A single-point supportive ambulation aid comprising:
- a means for support formed from moldable foam material in a single body portion to support a user;
- a means for grasping integrated proximate to a first end with and protruding from the means for support and providing an area to be gripped by a user outside the means for support, the means for grasping protruding from a means for receiving formed in the means for support and having a position adjustable within the means for receiving;
- and
- a means for contacting a walking surface integrated with the means for support and providing a single point of contact with the walking surface to facilitate user movement and support in conjunction with the means for support and means for grasping.
