An anode architecture comprising:
- an active metal anode having a first surface and a second surface opposing the first surface;
- and
- an oxygen-barrier protection film surrounding the second surface of the active metal anode,
- wherein the oxygen-barrier protection film is an organic film or an organic-inorganic composite film.
