Device for real time analysis of particles suspended in a fluid and method for the analysis of said particles

A method for analyzing a particle, in particular a cell, the method comprising the steps of:

• introducing the particle into an analysis chamber containing a positioning fluid;
• detecting a parameter of the particle in the analysis chamber, wherein said particle is in suspension in the positioning fluid;
• generating, during an analysis of the particle, a temporary positioning flow in any spatial direction in the three-dimensional space in the positioning fluid through the activation of at least one positioning unit, wherein said temporary positioning flow acts directly on the particle and drives said particle into a predefined position in the analysis chamber;
• and
• deactivating, during the analysis of the particle, the at least one positioning unit when the particle is in the predefined position such that the fluid in the analysis chamber is at rest.

A device controlling a particle used for analyzing the particle comprising:

• an analysis chamber, wherein said analysis chamber contains the particle suspended in a fluid;
• a plurality of fluid channels coupled to said analysis chamber at predetermined locations, wherein controlled flow of the fluid is capable of controlling movement of the particle in three dimensions in the fluid;
• a fluid flow control devise couple to each of said plurality of fluid channels, said fluid flow control devise controlling the fluid flow within each of said plurality of fluid channels, whereby the particle is capable of being controllably moved to a predetermined position;
• and
• a detection and control unit coupled to said fluid flow control devise, wherein said detection and control unit is capable of detecting the particle and controlling said fluid flow control devise directing the fluid flow from said plurality of fluid channels so that the particle is controllably moved to the predetermined position,
• whereby the particle is capable of being moved to the predetermined position and held without continuous fluid flow.
