Abstract
A ventilator for exhausting gas from an exhaust port, by utilizing wind or relative wind around and through the ventilator to create a reduced pressure zone at an open exhaust port. Tapered intermediate portions extend from the opposite ends of a centrally located throat portion within a body of the ventilator to a pair of opposite mouths through which gas can flow out through the ventilator from the exhaust port. Each mouth of the ventilator has an opening with an area significantly larger than the area of a flow path within the throat portion. The throat portion may be of constant internal cross-sectional area over its entire length.
Claims22
A ventilator, comprising:
- (a) an elongate body having a pair of opposite ends;
- (b) a throat portion located centrally within the body and between the opposite ends thereof, the throat portion having a pair of opposite ends defining a length of the throat portion and having an interior defining a first internal cross-sectional area, and the throat portion defining an opening into the interior space within the throat portion, between the opposite ends thereof;
- (c) a respective open mouth defined by the body at each of the opposite ends of the body, each of the open mouths defining a respective opening having a second internal cross-sectional area that is greater than the first internal cross-sectional area;
- (d) a tapered intermediate portion of the body extending inwardly from each open mouth and communicating with a respective adjacent end of the throat portion, the throat portion, the intermediate portion, and one of the open mouths defining an exhaust flow path extending from the opening into the interior space, through the intermediate portion and outwardly through the open mouth.
A vent port, comprising:
- a frame having a pair of opposite end members defining a length of the frame and a pair of opposite top and bottom side members defining a height of the frame and interconnecting the opposite end members with each other, the frame defining an opening and a front plane;
- a spoiler ridge extending along each of the end members;
- a plurality of inclined louver slats each having a length extending parallel with one of the top and bottom side members and each extending rearwardly and upwardly away from the front plane, an upper, rear margin of each one of the plurality of inclined louver slats overlapping a location of a lower, front margin of a respective upwardly adjacent one of the plurality of inclined louver slats.
