Abstract
A projector in an endoscope is used to project visible light onto tissue. The projected intensity, color, and/or wavelength vary by spatial location in the field of view to provide an overlay. Rather than relying on a rendered overlay alpha-blended on a captured image, the illumination with spatial variation physically highlights one or more regions of interest or physically overlays on the tissue.
Claims20
An endoscope system comprising:
- a projector optically connected with an endoscope;
- a controller configured to control a spatial distribution of illumination from the projector onto tissue in a first pattern;
- a camera on the endoscope, the camera configured to capture an image of patient tissue as illuminated by the spatial distribution of the first pattern;
- and
- a display configured to display the image from the camera.

A method for projection in medical imaging, the method comprising:
- identifying a target in a field of view of an endoscope;
- illuminating, by the endoscope, the target differently than surrounding tissue in the field of view;
- and
- generating an image by the endoscope of the field of view while the target is illuminated.
1 more element
A method for projection in medical imaging, the method comprising:
- projecting a first pattern of structured light from an endoscopic device;
- generating by the endoscopic device a depth map using captured data representing the first pattern of structured light;
- projecting a second pattern of light from the endoscopic device, the second pattern varying color, intensity, or color and intensity as a function of location;
- capturing an image of tissue as illuminated by the second pattern;
- and
- displaying the image;
- wherein the projecting of the first pattern and generating alternate with the projecting of the second pattern, capturing, and displaying.
