Abstract
Aspects of the embodiments are directed to systems, apparatuses and methods performed at a network element. Embodiments include receiving a packet; identifying a hop number for the network element; identifying a unique identifier for the network element; determining a path identifier based on the hop number and the unique identifier; augmenting the packet metadata with the path identifier; and transmitting the packet to a next network element.
Claims20
A method performed at a network element, the method comprising:
- receiving a packet;
- identifying a hop number for the network element;
- identifying a unique identifier for the network element;
- determining a path identifier based on the hop number and the unique identifier;
- augmenting the packet metadata with the path identifier;
- and
- transmitting the packet to a next network element.
A network element comprising:
- at least one memory element having instructions stored thereon;
- at least one processors coupled to the at least one memory element and configured to execute the instructions to cause the service node to:
- receiving a packet;
- identify a hop number for the network element;
- identify a unique identifier for the network element;
- determine a path identifier based on the hop number and the unique identifier;
- augment the packet metadata with the path identifier;
- and
- transmit the packet to a next network element.
A method performed at an network element, the method comprising:
- receiving a packet;
- identifying a path identifier value from the packet metadata;
- extrapolating a path traversed by the packet based on the path identifier;
- and
- providing the path to a controller.
