Abstract
The invention relates to a method for serial data transmission, comprising the steps consisting in computing the running disparity (RD) of a bit stream that is being transmitted; when the running disparity reaches a threshold (T), computing a point disparity on a subsequent frame (S) of the stream; if the point disparity has the same sign as the threshold, inverting the states of the bits of the frame in the transmitted bit stream; and inserting into the transmitted bit stream a polarity bit having a state signalling the inversion.
Claims19
A circuit, comprising:
- a shift register configured to store a frame of a source stream to be transmitted;
- a first computation circuit configured to controllably determine a point disparity of the frame stored in the shift register;
- an inverter having an input coupled to an output of the shift register;
- an insertion circuit having an input coupled to an output of the inverter, the insertion circuit being configured to insert a polarity bit into a frame output from the inverter;
- a second computation circuit coupled to an output of the insertion circuit and configured to determine a running disparity of the source stream;
- and
- a control circuit configured to control an operation of the first computation circuit, the inverter, and the insertion circuit based on a first comparison of the running disparity against a threshold and a second comparison of the point disparity against the threshold.
A method, comprising:
- storing, in a shift register, a frame of a source stream to be transmitted;
- controllably determining a point disparity of the frame stored in the shift register;
- disabling an inversion, by an inverter, of an output of the shift register and disabling an insertion of a polarity bit into a frame output from the inverter in response to an absolute value of a running disparity of the source stream being less than an absolute value of a threshold;
- and
- determining a point disparity of the frame stored in the shift register in response to the absolute value of the running disparity being greater than or equal to the absolute value of the threshold.
A method, comprising:
- determining a running disparity of a received bit stream;
- determining a state of a polarity bit in a subsequent frame of the received bit stream in response to the running disparity being equal to a threshold;
- inverting the subsequent frame in response to the polarity bit indicating an inversion;
- erasing the polarity bit;
- and
- determining a point disparity of the subsequent frame when the subsequent frame includes an even number of bits.
