Abstract
A vector based mosaic design system has a graphical processing module, a display module, a plugin application module and memory, and it operates to receive an original input image and mosaic design information from an artist. The plugin module has logical instructions that operate on the information received from the artist to determine the position of curves that are offset from a mosaic design region boundary or feature curve, and the plugin also operates to determine the positions and dimensions of tiles in courses that are defined by the positions of feature curves and curves that are offset from them.
Claims20
A method for determining the position of a plurality of tiles in a mosaic design, comprising:
- entering information into a mosaic design system that represents a feature curve in a mosaic design, and entering a dimension of a tile to be placed into the mosaic design;
- selecting a displayed graphical representation of the feature curve, and moving a cursor in a direction away from the feature curve while the feature curve is selected;
- automatically generating by the mosaic design system at least one curve that is offset from the feature curve subsequent to the cursor being moved away from the feature curve a distance equal to the tile dimension, an area between the feature curve and the offset curve defining a tile course;
- calculating a position in the tile course for each of a plurality of tiles;
- and
- displaying each of the plurality of the tiles in the tile course in the position calculated by the mosaic tile design system.
A mosaic design system comprising:
- a display, a special purpose computer application, a graphical processing module and associated computer memory;
- wherein the special purpose computer application receives feature curve information relating to an input graphical image and operates in conjunction with the graphical processing module to automatically generate and store information relating to a curve that is offset from the feature curve subsequent to selecting the feature curve and moving a cursor away from the feature curve a distance equal to a tile dimension, and to populate at least a portion of an area between the selected feature curve and the offset curve with one or more tiles, the tiled area between the feature curve and the offset curve being a tiled course;
- and
- displaying by the mosaic design system at least a portion of the tiled course at substantially the same time as it is generated.
