Pixel-based temporal plot of events according to multidimensional scaling values based on event similarities and weighted dimensions

A system comprising:

• at least one processor to:
• perform binary comparisons between dimensions of events, the binary comparisons being according to user-specified weights assigned to the dimensions;
• compute similarities between the events according to the binary comparisons;
• calculate multidimensional scaling (MDS) values based on the computed similarities;
• cause visualization of a temporal plot including pixels representing the events in a plurality of overlapping time slices, the pixels positioned in the temporal plot according to the MDS values and time values of the corresponding events;
• and
• cause visualization of graphical elements representing diversity values of dimensions of events in each of the overlapping time slices.

An article comprising at least one non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that upon execution cause a system to:

• compute similarities between events that comprise a plurality of dimensions, the similarities computed based on many-to-many binary comparisons between individual dimensions of the events and based on user-specified weights for the dimensions;
• define overlapping time slices, each time slice including a respective subset of the events, wherein a first time slice of the overlapping time slices shares at least one event with a second time slice of the overlapping time slices;
• calculate multidimensional scaling (MDS) values for events within each time slice of the overlapping time slices, the calculating based on the computed similarities between the events;
• and
• generate a graphical visualization of a temporal plot of the events, the temporal plot comprising a first axis corresponding to time, and a second axis corresponding to the MDS values, and the temporal plot representing the overlapping time slices each containing pixels representing the respective subset of the events.
