Methods and systems for reverse auctions and resource pooling for pervasive applications

A system for managing and exchanging a resource utilized at a Wireless Transmit/Receive Unit (WTRU) within a communications network through a context based reverse auction, comprising:

• an auction service server comprising a processor and a memory;
• the auction service server comprising receiver circuitry configured to receive and store in the memory seller context information regarding at least one potential seller's WTRU;
• the receiver circuitry further configured to receive and store in the memory buyer context information regarding at least one potential buyer's WTRU;
• the receiver circuitry further configured to receive and store in the memory resource context information regarding at least one resource utilized at the at least one potential seller's WTRU or the at least one potential buyer's WTRU;
• a buyer agent application executing on the processor;
• the buyer agent application configured to identify a buying opportunity in real-time based on at least one of the seller context information, buyer context information, or resource context information stored in the memory;
• the buyer agent application configured to automatically initiate execution of a reverse auction of a resource on the auction service server based on the buying opportunity;
• a seller agent application configured to place at least one bid in the reverse auction based on at least one of the seller context information, buyer context information, and resource context information stored in the memory;
• and
• the auction service server further configured to conduct a transaction of the at least one resource between the at least one potential buyer's WTRU and the at least one potential seller's WTRU based on the reverse auction.

A method for managing and exchanging a resource utilized at a Wireless Transmit/Receive Unit (WTRU) within a communications network through a context based reverse auction, comprising:

• receiving, by an auction service server, seller context information regarding at least one potential seller's WTRU;
• receiving, by the auction service server, buyer context information regarding at least one potential buyer's WTRU;
• receiving, by the auction service server, resource context information regarding at least one resource utilized at the at least one potential seller's WTRU or the at least one potential buyer's WTRU;
• identifying, by a seller agent application executing on the auction service server in real-time, a selling opportunity based on at least one of the seller context information, buyer context information, or resource context information;
• automatically initiating, by the seller agent application, a reverse auction of a resource based on the selling opportunity;
• placing, by the buyer agent application, at least one bid in the reverse auction, based on at least one of the seller context information, buyer context information, and resource context information;
• and
• conducting a transaction of the at least one resource between the at least one potential buyer's WTRU and the at least one potential seller's WTRU based on the reverse auction.
