Abstract
This disclosure is directed to system for transferring a substrate, such as a microscope slide, and holding the substrate within at least one device. The system includes a holder for holding the substrate and a gripper for transferring the substrate, such as between a cassette or stack and the holder. A method is also discussed herein.

A system comprising:
- a first cassette comprising at least one slot comprising at least one substrate;
- a holder comprising at least one securing block, wherein the securing block comprises a ramp and a stopper;
- and
- a gripper comprising at least one securing bracket, wherein the securing bracket comprises a first slanted facet and a second slanted facet thereby forming a notch.

The system of claim 7, the gripper further comprising a sensor attached to the base and proximal to the crossbar to detect deflection of the crossbar.
