Abstract
A sand control screen assembly includes a base pipe having openings having non-uniform cross-section. The sand control screen assembly can also include a drainage layer positioned about the base pipe, a filter medium, and a protective shroud. The sand control screen assembly prevents the flow of particulate material of a predetermined size therethrough and allows the flow of production fluids therethrough.

A sand control screen assembly, comprising:
- a base pipe having one or more openings through a thickness of the pipe, wherein at least one of the openings is characterized by a non-uniform cross-section.
A sand control screen assembly, comprising:
- a base pipe having an outer surface and an inner surface, the base pipe having
- (i) one or more openings extending from the outer surface to the inner surface through a thickness of the base pipe, and
- (ii) one or more channels positioned on the outer surface and in flow communication with at least one opening.
