Liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal composition, containing at least one compound selected from compounds represented by formula (1) as a first component, and at least one compound selected from the group of compounds represented by formula (2-1) and formula (2-2) as a second component, wherein a proportion of a compound represented by formula (1) is 7% by weight to 70% by weight based on the weight of the liquid crystal composition:

• wherein, in formula (1), formula (2-1) and formula (2-2), R11, R12, R21 and R22 are independently hydrogen, alkyl having 1 to 12 carbons, alkoxy having 1 to 12 carbons or alkenyl having 2 to 12 carbons, and in the alkyl, arbitrary non-adjacent —CH2— may be replaced by —O—, and in R11, R12, R21 and R22, at least one piece of hydrogen may be replaced by halogen;
• ring A11 and ring A12 are independently 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene, 1,4-phenylene in which at least one piece of hydrogen may be replaced by halogen, tetrahydropyran-2,5-diyl, 1,3-dioxane-2,5-diyl, pyrimidine-2,5-diyl, naphthalene-2,6-diyl or pyridine-2,5-diyl;
• ring A21 and ring A24 are independently 1, 4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-cyclohexenylene, 1, 4-phenylene in which at least one piece of hydrogen may be replaced by halogen, tetrahydropyran-2,5-diyl, 1, 3-dioxane-2,5-diyl, pyrimidine-2,5-diyl, pyridine-2,5-diyl, or benzothiophene-2,6-diyl in which at least one piece of hydrogen may be replaced by halogen;
• ring A22, ring A23, ring A25 and ring A26 are independently 1,4-phenylene in which at least one piece of hydrogen may be replaced by fluorine;
• a and b are independently 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, and a sum of a and b is 4 or less, and when a or b is 2 or more, a plurality of ring A11, ring A12, Z12 and Z13 may be identical or different;
• c and d are independently 0, 1 or 2, and when c or d represents 2, a plurality of ring A21, Z21, ring A24 and Z23 may be identical or different, respectively;
• Z11 is a single bond or —O—, and when the terminal of R11 adjacent to Z11 is —O—, Z11 is a single bond;
• and
• Z12 and Z13 are independently a single bond, —(CH2)2—, —CH═CH—, —CF═CF—, —C≡C—, —COO—, —OCO—, —CF2O—, —OCF2—, —CH2O—, —OCH2—, —(CH2)4—, —(CH2)2CF2O—, —(CH2)2OCF2— —CF2O(CH2)2—, —OCF2 (CH2)2—, —CH═CH— (CH2)2— or —(CH2)2—CH═CH—;
• Z21, Z22, Z23 and Z24 are independently a single bond, —(CH2)2—, —CH═CH—, —CF═CF—, —C≡C—, —COO—, —OCO—, —CF2O—, —OCF2—, —CH2O—, —OCH2—, —(CH2)4—, —(CH2)2CF2O—, —(CH2)2OCF2—, —CF2O(CH2)2—, —OCF2 (CH2)2—, —CH═CH— (CH2)2— or —(CH2)2—CH═CH—;
• X11 is hydrogen, fluorine or chlorine;
• X21, X22, X23 and X24 are independently hydrogen or fluorine;
• and Y21 and Y22 are independently fluorine, chlorine, alkyl having 1 to 12 carbons in which at least one piece of hydrogen may be replaced by halogen, alkoxy having 1 to 12 carbons in which at least one piece of hydrogen may be replaced by halogen, or alkenyl having 2 to 12 carbons in which at least one piece of hydrogen may be replaced by halogen.
