Abstract
An effect pigment includes a substrate; an outer layer disposed above the substrate; and particles disposed above the substrate and at least partially entrapped by the outer layer, the particles comprising quantum dots.

An effect pigment comprising:
- a substrate;
- an outer layer disposed above the substrate;
- and
- particles disposed above the substrate and at least partially entrapped by the outer layer, the particles comprising quantum dots.

A method of producing an effect pigment, the method comprising:
- depositing particles onto a substrate followed by forming an outer layer over the particles;
- or
- co-depositing the particles and the outer layer onto the substrate,
- wherein the outer layer at least partially entraps the particles.
