Abstract
In one aspect of the present disclosure, a sterilization mat is provided that is configured to receive non-sterile surgical instruments, rolled to a rolled configuration, and sterilized while in the rolled configuration. In accordance with another aspect of the present disclosure, a specialized surgical supply kit includes a package that retains surgical supplies having at least one surgical supply identified as a preferred surgical supply by the hospital or surgeon that is to perform the surgery. The surgical supplies are further arranged in a spatial arrangement based on the surgeon who is to perform the surgery.

A method for fabricating a sterilization mat, the method comprising the steps of:
- defining inner and outer surfaces of a sheet of sterilization fabric that are opposite each other along a transverse direction, wherein each of the inner and outer ends extend between opposed lateral ends of the sheet of sterilization fabric that are spaced from each other along a lateral direction that is perpendicular to the transverse direction, and opposed front and rear ends of the sheet of sterilization fabric that are spaced from each other along a longitudinal direction that is perpendicular to each of the lateral direction and the transverse direction;
- supporting a plurality of pouches at the inner surface of the sheet, such that the pouches are spaced from each other along the lateral direction;
- and
- causing at least one attachment member to extend from the sheet,
- wherein each of the pouches is sized to receive a respective surgical supply, such that the sterilization mat is configured to be 1) rolled into a rolled configuration along at least two revolutions about an axis that is oriented along the longitudinal direction, such that a first revolution of the sterilization mat overlaps a second revolution of the sterilization mat along a direction toward the axis, and 2) subjected to a sterilization agent so as to sterilize the received surgical supplies while the sterilization mat is in the rolled configuration.
A method of sterilizing surgical supplies, the method comprising the steps of:
- inserting the surgical supplies into respective ones of pouches of a sterilization mat;
- rolling the sterilization mat into a rolled configuration;
- and
- after the rolling step, subjecting the sterilization mat to a sterilization agent, such that the sterilization agent passes through the sterilization mat and sterilizes the surgical supplies.
A surgical supply kit comprising:
- a package defining an interior;
- a plurality of selected surgical supplies disposed in the interior, the selected surgical supplies identified for use in at least one surgical step of a surgical procedure,
- wherein the selected surgical supplies are selected from a plurality of functionally equivalent alternative surgical supplies identified for use in the at least one surgical step, and the selected surgical supplies are identified according to a preference of a surgical provider that is to perform the surgical procedure, the preference different than a preference of at least one other surgical provider of the surgical procedure.
A method of fabricating a surgical supply kit, the method comprising the steps of:
- retrieving a preference of a surgical provider from a database of preferences of a plurality of surgeons and hospitals;
- identifying at least one selected surgical supply for performing at least one surgical step of a surgical procedure among at least one functionally equivalent alternative surgical supply for performing the at least one surgical step, wherein the identifying step is in accordance with the retrieved preference;
- placing the at least one surgical supply in an interior of a surgical supply kit;
- and
- closing the interior of the package.
