Abstract
An apparatus for physical correspondence recognition and processing in a postal system is described, comprising a housing comprising an opening for receiving physical correspondence, the physical correspondence including a readable element including textual information, and a secure enclosure for storing the physical correspondence, a visual processing and digitizing component, for processing the physical correspondence and the at least one readable element, dimension and weighing component for determining dimensions and weight of the physical correspondence, and a communication component coupled to the housing, for transmitting and receiving recognition and processing information related to the physical correspondence and readable element.
Claims20
An apparatus for physical correspondence recognition and processing in a postal system, the apparatus comprising:
- a housing comprising an opening configured for receiving physical correspondence, the physical correspondence including at least one readable element including textual information, and a secure enclosure for storing the physical correspondence;
- a visual processing and digitizing component coupled to the housing or the opening, configured for processing the physical correspondence and the at least one readable element including textual information;
- a dimension and weighing component coupled to the housing, configured for determining dimensions and weight of the physical correspondence;
- and
- a communication component coupled to the housing, configured for transmitting and receiving recognition and processing information related to the physical correspondence and the readable element.
A method for physical correspondence recognition and processing in a postal system, the method comprising:
- receiving a physical correspondence including at least one readable element including textual information, by a housing comprising an opening and a secure enclosure for storing the physical correspondence;
- processing the physical correspondence and the at least one readable element including textual information, by a visual processing and digitizing component coupled to the housing;
- determining dimensions and weight of the physical correspondence by a dimension and weighing component coupled to the housing;
- and
- transmitting and receiving recognition and processing information related to the physical correspondence and the readable element, by a communication component coupled to the housing.
