ADAPTER EXTENDING CAPABILITIES OF REMOTE CONTROL AND LiFi TO INSTALLATIONS OF DEVICES INCLUDING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE-BASED LUMINAIRES

A method for registering a gateway device having a MAC address, with a management platform, comprising:

• assigning a token to the gateway device;
• associating the gateway device with a user ID and the token;
• sending a globally unique identifier from the management platform to the gateway device if the customer ID and token are valid;
• and
• storing the globally unique identifier and the MAC address in a database of the management platform.

A method for registering a device having a MAC address with a gateway, comprising:

• assigning a token to the device;
• transmitting the token and the MAC address to the gateway;
• confirming that a user ID and the token are valid;
• generating a globally unique identifier for the device;
• and
• storing the globally unique identifier and the MAC address in a database of a management platform that manages the gateway.

A system comprising:

• a plurality of luminaires;
• a plurality of devices for interaction with or control of the luminaires;
• a power input for the luminaires and the devices;
• and
• communication apparatus associated with each of the luminaires and the devices for mesh communication between the luminaires and the devices for controlling the luminaires by at least one of modulating light output of the luminaires to contain information, or a connection to a network so that the luminaires communicate via signals on the network.
