Abstract
The present invention concerns a process for manufacturing a fraction comprising carboxylic acid anhydride by reaction of a fraction comprising carboxylic acid with a ketene, and the use of the fraction comprising carboxylic acid anhydride in a process for acylation of polysaccharides.

A process for manufacturing a fraction comprising carboxylic acid anhydride by reaction of a fraction comprising carboxylic acid with a ketene, wherein at least one of the following conditions is met:
- I. at least part of the fraction comprising carboxylic acid is a fraction comprising carboxylic acid and terpene and/or terpene derived impurities;
- and/or
- II. at least part of the ketene is manufactured from a fraction comprising carboxylic acid, wherein the fraction comprising carboxylic acid further comprises terpene and/or terpene derived impurities.
