Method for reducing power consumption of terminal in mobile communication system using multi-carrier structure

A method for a discontinuous reception by a terminal, the method comprising:

• receiving information about a first discontinuous reception cycle, a duration of the first discontinuous reception cycle and a second discontinuous reception cycle from a base station;
• performing the discontinuous reception of a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) on a first component carrier based on the information about the first discontinuous reception cycle in the duration of the first discontinuous reception cycle;
• receiving a first message;
• and
• switching the discontinuous reception on the first component carrier from the first discontinuous reception cycle to the second discontinuous reception cycle in response to the first message in the duration of the first discontinuous reception cycle,
• wherein the PDCCH comprises a carrier indicator (CI) indicating a second component carrier through which a data channel is received by the terminal.

An apparatus, comprising:

• a memory and a processor operably coupled to the memory, to execute program instructions stored in the memory,
• wherein the processor, through execution of the program instructions, is configured to:
• instruct to receive information about a first discontinuous reception cycle, a duration of the first discontinuous reception cycle and a second discontinuous reception cycle from a base station;
• perform a discontinuous reception of a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) on a first component carrier based on the information about the first discontinuous reception cycle in the duration of the first discontinuous reception cycle;
• cause the transceiver to receive a first message;
• and
• switch the discontinuous reception on the first component carrier from the first discontinuous reception cycle to the second discontinuous reception cycle in response to the first message in the duration of the first discontinuous reception cycle,
• wherein the PDCCH comprises a carrier indicator (CI) indicating a second component carrier through which a data channel is received by the terminal.
