Processing state information

A method for providing state information by a user equipment (UE) in a communication system, the method comprising:

• transmitting, to a first network, state information for the UE;
• identifying whether the UE has transmitted the state information for the UE to a first base station during a predetermined time period, if a handover of the UE is configured from the first network to a second network;
• and
• transmitting, to the second network, the state information for the UE, if the UE has transmitted the state information to the first base station during the predetermined time period.

A method for receiving state information by a first network in a communication system, the method comprising:

• receiving, from a user equipment (UE), state information for the UE;
• and
• identifying whether the first network has received the state information for the UE from the UE during a predetermined time period, if a handover of the UE is configured from the first network to a second network,
• wherein the state information for the UE is transmitted from the UE to the second network, if the first network has received the state information from the UE during the predetermined time period.

A user equipment (UE) for providing state information in a communication system, the UE comprising:

• a transceiver configured to transmit and receive signals;
• and
• a controller coupled to the transceiver and configured to:
• transmit, to a first network, state information for the UE,
• identify whether the UE has transmitted the state information for the UE to a first base station during a predetermined time period, if a handover of the UE is configured from the first network to a second network, and
• transmit, to the second network, the state information for the UE, if the UE has transmitted the state information to the first base station during the predetermined time period.

A first network for receiving state information in a communication system, the first network comprising:

• a transceiver configured to transmit and receive signals;
• and
• a controller coupled to the transceiver and configured to:
• receive, from a user equipment (UE), state information for the UE;
• and
• identify whether the first network has received the state information for the UE from the UE during a predetermined time period, if a handover of the UE is configured from the first network to a second network,
• wherein the state information for the UE is transmitted from the UE to the second network, if the first network has received the state information from the UE during the predetermined time period.
